  • James Clark

Jim started competing in wrestling at the age of ten. Since then he has had over 600 Scholastic, Freestyle, and Greco Roman wrestling matches. Jim also has competed in Judo and was taught a very practical form of submission grappling called Catch as Catch Can.

The highlights of Jim's grappling career:

    • - 1st in the Minnesota State Freestyle Championships (x2)
    • - 2nd in the State Greco-Roman Championships
    • - 3rd in the Minnesota State High School League Collegiate Style Wrestling Championships
    • - First place in the United Kingdom judo championship held in Dublin, Ireland.

Outside of the U.S., James has lived and taught down in Ecuador, South America. He traveled with the Ecuadorian national Freestyle and Greco Roman teams and would participate in exhibition matches against the national wrestling champions from Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. In these wrestling matches against the best wrestlers in South America, Jim finished with a 72-3 (Win-Loss) record.

Jim graduated from Elk River High School in 1983 and is perhaps best known for his multiple World Records in the field of Strength & Fitness.

He started his world record-breaking quest in 1987, breaking four different records over the next three years, more than 30 records to date.

    • - 1987 - 2,001 parallel bar dips in 5 hours (World Record)
    • - 1988 - 33,001 push-ups in 24 hours (World Record)
    • - 1989 - 44,001 sit-ups in 24 hours (World Record)
    • - 1989 - 1001 Pullups and 1001 Pushups in 1 hour 17 minutes (World Record)

The world record for number of sit-ups in 24 hours is a record that still stands. The old record of 43,418 sit-ups was held by the Japanese World Record Breaker Ashrita Furman. Clarks established world record is 44,001 sit-ups in 24 hours. (watch the video)

After breaking this world sit-up record he was invited to be a guest on The Late Show with David Letterman. Clark then broke the world record held by the legendary fitness celebrity Jack Lalanne, doing 1001 pull-ups and 1001 pushups in 1 hour and 17 minutes to break the 1000 pull-ups and 1000 push-up mark that Lalanne did in 1 hour and 22 minutes.

Jim then took a hiatus from world record-breaking and went on to university to study theology, philosophy (both ancient Greek and Eastern ), Platonic metaphysics, and transcendental meditation.

He graduated with a B.A. in Theology from St. Thomas university and a Master's certificate in theology and Spanish from St. John's University. James earned a Ph.D. from St. Alcuins College and did his Dissertation on Greek philosophy and Platonic metaphysics.

    Using the principles gained through his philosophical study and transcendental meditation, Jim has broken over 30 world records. Since his return to weight lifting competition, James has broken world records in;

    • - Bench Press (pressing 55,500 kilos in one hour)
    • - Lat Pulldown (lifting 91,000 pounds in 58 minutes)
    • - Weighted Situps (1,575 sit ups in one hour while holding a 52 pound weight on his chest)
    • - Timed Situps (2,201 sit ups in one hour without weight)
    • - 651 sit ups in 26 minutes while holding 103 pounds on his chest

The story of James Clark's practical use of Platonic Metaphysics in his athletic competitions has been made into a book and movie. "Platonic Superman" is currently selling on Amazon and is being made into a full length feature film by a Hollywood production company: Zia Films
